What makes this book special and desirable are the TWO RARE & LOVELY BOOKPLATES, one on the Front Pastedown and one on the Front Free-Endpaper. Both Bookplates are from Historical Men of NEVERS, NIEVRE, FRANCE, with the word "Nevers" printed on each plate.
One is an Armorial / Heraldic Bookplate that states: D.-A. DUFETRE, Eveque de Nevers (D-A Dufetre, BISHOP of NEVERS).
From Wikipedia: ******Dominique Augustin Dufêtre (Lyon, 17 April 1796, Nevers, 6 November 1860) was the BISHOP of the ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE of NEVERS from 1842 to 1860.******
The Second Bookplate has a BILLIARDS design, with the name ALFRED MASSÉ on the edges of the design. The bookplate design is Very Cool! There is also a name / address label of M. Massé on the front pastedown, below the Bishop Dufetre bookplate.
Excerpted from French Wikipedia: ******Alfred Massé, 1870 - 1951, was involved in the regional politics of Nevers, Nievre, France, during most of his life. There is a street in Nevers named after him, Rue Alfred Massé. He was born and died in the Commune of Nievre.******
This lovely, miniature size book, is in VERY GOOD condition, the covers have a few rubs, there is a bit of foxing to the inner pages, overall tight, bright, clean and unmarked. The two bookplates of historic Nevers, Nievre, France, men make this book quite a gem.
