1934 R. Reynell Bellamy MIXED BLISS IN MELANESIA w/ PHOTOS & MAP First Ed. RARE

MIXED BLISS IN MELANESIA, by R. REYNELL BELLAMY. Copy of THE EARL OF BELMORE, with his Signature "The Earl of Belmore" and his handwritten date "July 7th / 34" at the top of the front free endpaper. Published by John Long, Limited, LONDON, 1934. First Edition, as indicated by the date 1934 on the title page, with no indication of additional printings on the copyright page. Hardcover book, maroon cloth covered boards, gilt design on the front cover, gilt lettering on the spine, 6.5" x 9", 286 pages. Contains 29 b&w illustrations, consisting of a frontispiece photo, 15 photographic plates (most with 2 photos per page), and a map at the rear. VERY GOOD condition. spine is lightly sunned, cover corner tips and spine ends show a bit of wear, there is a bb-size indent to the top edge of the front cover, there is some offsetting to the half title page (the Earl of Belmore's signature and date on the front free endpaper have nicely offset in white on to the half title page too), there is a bit of foxing to the page edges and to the first and last few pages. Overall just lightly used and still tight, bright, clean and unmarked. MIXED BLISS IN MELANESIA is considered by some to be one of the best travel books ever written. It has become SCARCE, much more so than so than the other book by Bellamy titled The Real South Seas. I could not find a single copy for sale online, and it has been forever since I have seen another copy. Wonderful SCARCE first edition, with the nice association to THE EARL OF BELMORE.
