GREAT WHITE SHARK *SIGNED & INSCRIBED* Most Terrifying Creature in the Ocean First Edition
GREAT WHITE SHARK - The Definitive Look at the Most Terrifying Creature in the Ocean, by Richard Ellis & John E. McCosker, with original photographs by Al Giddings and others.
Published by Stanford University Press and HarperCollins, 1991. First edition, first printing, with First Edition stated and with the number line starting at 1.
Hardcover Book in Dustjacket, 9x12 inches, 270 pages. Illustrated throughout with great color and b&w photographs.
SIGNED by both the co-author, John McCosker, and by ROY EISENHARDT, the Executive Director of the California Academy of Sciences (previously President of the Oakland A's); and INSCRIBED by Roy Eisenhardt to (possibly) Jim McKay, the noted sportscaster, as follows: "Jim, life is fraught with danger. I hope that you will find this more appealing. With regards and best wishes from Roy (signed) and the co-author (here it is hand signed by John McCosker)". John McCosker is the only full signature. Roy Eisenhardt only uses his first name, but the handwriting is his. Both Roy Eisenhardt and John McCosker worked at the San Francisco Academy of Sciences at the same time in the early to mid 1990s; Roy as Executive Director of the Academy, and John McCosker as head of the Aquatic Biology department. Though the book is inscribed only to "Jim", I was told that it was to Jim McKay, which seems possible because Roy Eisenhardt, during his time as President of the Oakland A's was a colleague of Jim McKay, but I cannot be certain. So, certainly John McCosker and Roy Eisenhardt, possibly Jim McKay.
Condition: NEAR FINE book, tight, bright, clean and clear, in a VERY GOOD price clipped dustjacket that has a bit of creasing to the edges and spine ends, and remnants of a label at the top of the front flap. A solid, very presentable copy.
Perfect book for anyone who loves both SHARKS and BASEBALL.
