1890 NAPA VALLEY FAMILY Large Cabinet Card Photograph ST. HELENA PHOTO STUDIO

Historic antique 1890 photograph of an early Napa Valley, California settler family (as yet unidentified). The photograph depicts a large multi-generational family in 19th century West Coast rural attire.

Original albumen studio photograph by H. H. Blakesly, Elite Studio, Saint Helena, California. The Studio's gilt imprint in bottom margin. No date, circa 1890. 12" x 10" mounted card photograph (slightly larger than an Imperial Mount). VERY GOOD CONDITION: some tiny spotting/scrapes to the photo surface, age toning to the card, edgewear, light warping and corner chips, overall a very bright and detailed antique mounted photograph.

Photographer H.H. Blakesly (American, 1851-1930). Blakesly is known for photographing Ambrose Bierce at his Elite St. Helena Studio around 1892 - there are catalogued photographs from that sitting. Blakesly operated the Elite Studio in St. Helena from about 1890 to 1893. He later relocated to Placerville, where he managed the A.K. Varney Studio. St. Helena is located seventy miles north of San Francisco in the heart of Napa Valley's wine country, in 1890 it's population was only 1,705.
