Photographer H.H. Blakesly (American, 1851-1930). Blakesly is known for photographing Ambrose Bierce at his Elite St. Helena Studio around 1892 - there are catalogued photographs from that sitting. Blakesly operated the Elite Studio in St. Helena from about 1890 to 1893. He later relocated to Placerville, where he managed the A.K. Varney Studio. St. Helena is located seventy miles north of San Francisco in the heart of Napa Valley's wine country, in 1890 it's population was only 1,705.
