7 Postcards RAILWAY CONDUCTORS OF AMERICA DEATHS & DISMEMBERMENTS 1895-1898
7 ORDER of RAILWAY CONDUCTORS of AMERICA Mutual Benefit Postcards.
Each postcard is addressed and postmarked on one side, with a LISTING of REASONS for the payment of DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT BENEFITS for a specific month on the reverse side.
The specific cause for DEATH and DISMEMBERMENT while working as a Conductor on the Railroad included LOSS of HANDS, LOSS of LEGS, FALLING from RR CARS, RUN OVER by RR, GUNSHOTS, ACCIDENTAL DROWNING, LOTS of unspecified RR ACCIDENTS, and of course NUMEROUS DISEASES.
My favorite cause for the payment of a death benefit was for death caused by OVER EXERTION.
Ah the glamorous world of working as a railway conductor in the 1890s..
The 7 postcards are in generally GOOD condition, some numbers are handwritten on the mailing side of the cards, there are a few small, light stains here and there.
