A history of the social revolt that took place in the State of Maranhao, Brazil. Published in three parts, covering the years 1837-1841. This is PART ONE only, covering the years 1837-1839.

Published by [Typogravura Teixeira], Maranhao, Brasil, 1898. First Edition.

Hardcovers, sheep leather spine and marbled paper covered boards, leather spine labels titled in gilt, 6x8.5 inches (15x21 cm). Pagination: 96, 9, 4 pages. TEXT IN PORTUGUESE.

GOOD Condition: the covers have some peeling to their edges and corner tips, the spine is scuffed, the title page has a few small chips, previous owner's name, place and date on the front pastedown "George Louis Archuleta / Rio de Janeiro / 1969", otherwise tight, bright, clean and unmarked. An attractive, very presentable copy.

RARE First Part of this three part account of the 1838-1841 Balaiada social revolt that took place in Maranhao, Brazil. As of this writing, NO COPIES of Part 1 are located in OCLC; there are two copies listed of Part 2 (covering 1839-1840, published in 1900) and three copies of Part 3 (1840-1841, published 1906).
