MICHELLE CLIFF BROADSIDE on HANDMADE PAPER with DESIGN and COLLAGE DECORATIONS by JOCELYN H. COHEN. Titled: "FROM ABENG - A Description of NANNY the leader of the WINDWARD MAROONS".

SIGNED and HAND NUMBERED at the bottom of the broadside. SIGNED by Michelle Cliff and Jocelyn H. Cohen.

Broadside, 12x18 inches, handmade paper, collage decorations. Printed on one side only.

Published by the Helaine Victoria Press in Martinsville, Indiana. This Collage / Signed edition on handmade paper was limited to only 50 copies, this being number 37 (in addition 200 unsigned plain copies printed on Strathmore paper were printed).

From the Colophon: "This broadside was printed on a Chandler & Price platen press on cotton rag, burlap and manila hemp paper handmade exclusively for this edition of fifty copies. Design, presswork, handmade paper and hand composition by Jocelyn H. Cohen using Munder Venezian foundry types and sixteenth century initials...The broadside was printed...and the type distributed in May 1984..."

Michelle Cliff, b.1946 d.2016, was a Jamaican-American author whose notable works included Abeng (1985), No Telephone to Heaven (1987), and Free Enterprise (2004). She was the partner of Adrienne Rich (who also had a limited edition broadside published by the Helaine Victoria Press).

The Helaine Victoria Press, was a feminist press focused on women's history. It was co-founded in 1973 by Jocelyn Helaine Cohen and Nancy Victoria Taylor Poore. It is most remembered for its series of women's history postcards, but it also published some broadsides by noted feminist authors. The press ceased publishing in 1990.
