1847-1857 HANDWRITTEN VETERINARY RECIPES, SERVICES, ACCOUNTS and Related Veterinary/Medical Newspaper Clippings
Medical & Veterinary Accounts Ledger and Handwritten Recipes and Remedies, plus some related news clippings over text. Many of the newspaper clippings are from Vermont, with some from Maine, New York, and surrounding states.
Full suede leather covers, marbled endpapers, 5x8 inches, lined inner pages. 82 pages have clippings and manuscript writing.
The first 27 pages are mostly newspaper clippings over ledger accounts, the majority of which appear to be veterinary or medical related. The next 28 pages are ledger accounts for produce and services, including selling pumpkins, wheat, corn, etc. and services such as shoeing horses, fixing wagons, applying liniment to horses, etc. The next 25 pages are recipes for creating liniments and fixes for various large animal ailments. All in all it appears, from the clippings and the veterinary recipes and services, that the owner of this book transitioned from selling produce and liniments to primarily providing veterinary services and cures.
GOOD condition, the leather covers are aging and show rubbing and wear but are still doing their job well, the newspaper articles have mostly browned but are still fully legible, otherwise clean and solid.
Early American manuscript veterinary items are quite rare.
