Jack Tatum (1948-2010) American professional football safety. Nicknamed the Assassin, Tatum played nine seasons with the Oakland Raiders becoming one of the most feared hitters in football. Tatum played ten seasons in the National Football League and won a Super Bowl ring in 1977 with the Raiders, whose outlaw image was enhanced by Tatum's fierce style of play. Tatum was involved in a number of controversial plays that symbolize N.F.L. football as a violent game. He was named to three straight Pro Bowls from 1973-1975 and was a key member of the Raiders Super Bowl XI championship squad.
