About ALFRED KALLIR (from librarystack and elsewhere on the Internet):

******Alfred Kallir, b.1899 d.1988, was a noted symbologist / semiologist. An artillery officer of Austrian origin but English by nationality, Kallir was an exceptionally skilled decipherer and puzzle solver. During World War II he worked in British military counter-espionage. In 1942 he witnessed the extraordinary effect Winston Churchill's use of the letter "V" as a symbol of victory had on the English people. Two years later Kallir published "V IS THE WAR AIM" on the meaning and significance of the letter V. From that point forward Kallir dedicated all his research to the origin and meaning of the letters of the alphabet. He summarized much of his research and analysis in his seminal work: "Sign and Design: the Psychogenetic Source of the Alphabet" first published in 1961 and subsequently republished numerous times. In his will Kallir drew up plans for an institution to be called "V-Forum" that would carry on his legacy, but the institution was never founded. Alfred Kallir died in London in 1988.******
