DAVID LANCE GOINES Rare Linocut PERSONAL WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT For David & His Fiancee 1985
Original David Lance Goines ephemera, his own unique wedding announcement for his marriage to Edie Sei Ichioka on Sunday, July 14, 1985 at the Joseph Phelps Vineyard's Winery in Saint Helena.
Quarter fold (French fold) Wedding Announcement Card designed and printed by David Lance Goines with evocative Japanese woodblock inspired color linoleum print on the front, text with illustration and devices printed in two colors inside, and a printers device on rear, 7" x 5", (one sheet of 14" x 10" cream paper folded vertically and again horizontally, printed on one side). NEAR FINE Condition, light corner-tip wear, faint impression of postal cancellation (this was mailed to the recipient, no envelope present), otherwise bright and clean. A rare personal printed item, I've never seen another example.
DAVID LANCE GOINES (1945-2023) pioneering poster artist, political activist, calligrapher, graphic artist, and printer. In 1964, 19 year old Goines was expelled from UC Berkeley after being arrested and jailed for protest leafleting on campus during Berkeley's Free Speech Movement (he was gleefully arrested 14 times during the 1960s). He apprenticed at the radical, era defining Berkeley Free Press, which he acquired in 1971. Here is the chronology of the Press: [Free Speech Movement Press], 1964-1965; Berkeley Free Press, 1965-1967; Saint Hieronymus Press, 1971-2023.
