For over half a century CODY'S BOOKS (1965-2006) was a thriving cultural landmark, the famously independent bookstore was the social and political heart and soul of Berkeley. Cody's was the home of radical politics and intellectualism, not just famous for its books and readings by world renowned writers but also for providing a safe haven from censorship and for protecting protestors fleeing a militarized police force during the Free Speech Movement, Peoples Park Protests, and anti apartheid demonstrations which roiled Telegraph Avenue for decades.

Here is the chronology of the Press: [Free Speech Movement Press], 1964-1965; Berkeley Free Press, 1965-1967; Saint Hieronymus Press, 1971-2023.
