The Hetch Hetchy Water Supply Project was a massive public works project undertaken by the City of San Francisco. The City needed public support because the public was paying for it. Consisting of a series of dams, reservoirs, tunnels, railroads, aqueducts, and power plants, the Hetch Hetchy project started in 1914 and was ultimately completed in 1934 providing the City and its surrounding areas with a long term gravity driven water supply.
