The blueprints were created by: "Architects for the Palace of Fine Arts Historical State Park - WILLIAM GLADSTONE MERCHANT and ASSOCIATES, ARCHITECTS; and WELTON BECKET and ASSOCIATES, ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS; San Francisco, California." The blueprints were part of a "BASE BID". They are undated but circa 1960. (William Gladstone Merchant, the lead architect, died in 1962 while the rehabilitation based on his drawings was underway).

GOOD condition, a couple small edge tears, one blueprint has a vertical center fold, overall the blueprints are solid, bright, clean and clear.

About WILLIAM GLADSTONE MERCHANT, Architect (from the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design website):

******William Gladstone Merchant, b.1889 d.1962, was a San Francisco architect who worked in the offices of John Galen Howard and Bernard Maybeck until he opened his own firm in San Francisco in 1930, designing a number of commercial buildings in San Francisco. From 1932-1939, he was the consulting architect for the San Francisco Recreation Commission; he was also a member of the Architectural Commission of Golden Gate International Exposition (1939). William G. Merchant & Associates was the successor firm to and inherited the practice of Bernard Maybeck. William Gladstone Merchant was the lead architect for the rehabilitation of the Palace of Fine Arts, designing a rehabilitation that would keep the glory of Maybeck's Rotunda intact. Merchant died just as the Palace of Fine Arts was being rebuilt based on his designs.******

GOLDEN GATEWAY REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT : Eichler Homes Inc. - Developer; Dinwiddie Construction Co. - Associate; Anshen & Allen - Architects. Undated but known to be 1960.

Large format cloth covered stiff boards, 13x21 inches, 21 heavy stock leaves (i.e. 42 pages). The rectos are all illustrations, many are photographs of architectural models and drawings showing how the proposed project would look when completed.Text on facing pages describes the illustrations.

The last page has the printed signatures of Joseph L. Eichler (Eichler Homes), Curtis E. Smith Jr. (Dinwiddie Construction), and "Anshen & Allen" signed by either Robert Anshen or Steve Allen.

Condition: Some of the paper pastedown on the outer corner area of both the front and rear cover has peeled away exposing the boards beneath, otherwise in very good condition, bright, clean, clear and unmarked.

SCARCE, this is the only copy I have ever seen.

******Juan O'Gorman's most celebrated work due to its creativity, construction technique, and dimensions, are the four thousand square meters murals covering the four faces of the building of the Central Library at Ciudad Universitaria at UNAM. Condition: GOOD book, toning to the cover's margins, some creasing to the upper spine corner, otherwise tight, bright, clean, clear and unmarked; in a GOOD dustjacket that has toning to the spine and spine margins, a 4 inch closed tear to the back panel starting at the top edge (repaired on the blank backside with clear tape), and some quarter size remnants of thin plastic adhesive on the backside (probably from an old dj protector), else the dj is solid, attractive, and doing its job well.

A presentable copy of this scarce photographic study of the Taima-Ji Buddhist Temple.
