FINE BINDING. The original book complete with its paper wrappers have been finely bound in hardcovers with red morocco half-leather and red cloth covered boards, four raised spine bands, and gilt titles and designs to the spine; 8vo. 5.75x9 inches (14.5x22cm), 263 pages. TEXT in SPANISH.

Laid-in here and there in between pages are approx 40 pieces of ephemera, mostly scraps of paper with handwritten notes, plus some clippings and a few other items. Most seem relevant. I have not fully investigated the importance of the ephemera (if any), but the fine binding, the ephemera, and the penciled relevant margin notes here and there throughout, indicate the book likely had a scholarly previous owner at one point.

Condition: The finely bound covers have a few scrapes to the edges, otherwise they are solid and quite attractive. The bound-in front and rear wrappers are darkened and toned, both have a stiff vertical crease, and some edge wear and light chipping; the text pages are toned to a greater or lesser degree, and some of them have edge wear; there are numerous relevant, handwritten margin notes, in pencil, here and there throughout.

BOTH VOLUMES are in GOOD condition, likely bound in library hardcovers as indicated by the scrapes at the bottom of both spines where shelving labels probably were at one time, and perhaps by the bit of erased writing at the upper corner of the title page of one volume, but there are no other library marks, labels, etc. In addition to the scapes to the spines the covers have a little wear to the spine ends and the 1952 edition has a small area of bubbling to the front cover, otherwise the covers are solid, bright, and doing their job well. Internally, the 1947 edition has some waviness to the first and last few pages, and the rear inner hinge is cracking; the 1952 edition has toned pages, and the upper corner of its title page has the ghost of some writing that has been erased but the indents are still there; otherwise the pages and all the facsimile printings are bright and clear.

An important resource for anyone interested in early Mexican printing.

Fifteen (15) lithographs of various Argentine scenes. Each lithograph is hand signed by the artist, Pablo Fabisch. The loose lithographs are held in a printed folder; they are accompanied with six folded together leaves (12 pages) of descriptive text in Spanish and some German.

FOLIO SIZE, the lithographs are printed on 14x17.5 inch sheets, and held in a slightly larger folder. LIMITED, NUMBERED EDITION, this being #226 of 400 total copies, so stated on the last page of the descriptive text leaves.

VERY GOOD condition, just light wear.

Ivonne Baki is primarily known for being a diplomat, politician and the first female Ambassador from Ecuador. She was an ambassador to Qatar and later to the United States. BUT she is also an artist. This book catalogs some of her paintings of Middle-Eastern Women (she lived 19 years in Lebanon where she raised her family) as well as promotes her as an artist.

SIGNED & INSCRIBED by IVONNE BAKI on the inside front cover, below her photo: "Muy estimado Fred, Con todo cariño y amistad! Te deseos stempu felicidad! / Ivonne / Dec. 7th, 1991". Baki also wrote a sentence in Arabic below the Spanish inscription.

ILLUSTRATED with 6 reproductions of Baki's paintings, a photograph of a young Baki at work, and a photograph of Baki on the inside front cover. The book also contains listings of her exhibitions, works in private collections, press articles, etc.

GOOD condition, the covers are pulling from the inner text block due to weak glue, but the sewn text block remains tightly bound; otherwise bright, clean and clear.

She is most known for her time as the Ecuadorian Minister of Industries and Productivity and as the President of the Andean Parliament. POOR but COMPLETE Condition: Lacks covers and blank endpapers, early and latter pages and signatures are loose, entire text block is shaky and tender, first few pages are creased and show lots of edgewear not affecting text, various signs of edge wear to the deckled page edges, toning to first and last pages, &c. NONETHELESS, the pages are complete, and surprisingly bright, clean, clear and unmarked.

This important early chronological history of the islands in the Caribbean is RARE and worthy of rebinding.

VERY GOOD condition, the covers are solid and attractive; the bound in pages have light foxing here and there, overall bright, clean and unmarked. One of the nicest copies of this book and map that I have seen.

CONDITION: PART 5 is complete, including its wrappers, but is in only FAIR condition, the wrappers are splitting at the spine folds and coming loose, have water staining and shorelining, are soiled, and have edge wear; internally, there is some waviness / old water damage to the bottom margin and corner area of the inner pages, the bottom front corners are bent, there is red staining to the bottom corner of a few pages, some pages are soiled; nonetheless the pages remain bright, many pages are uncut, and the printing is always clear and fully legible.

CONCIERTO con PEDRO TERAN: INTERPRETADOR de la CANCIÓN REVOLUCIONARIA. SCREENPRINT POSTER, printed on heavy stock paper, 17.5x23 inches (44.5 x 58.5 cm). This poster was obviously printed in support of the Nicaraguan Revolution and the Sandinistas. 1979 was an important year in the NICARAGUAN SANDINISTA REVOLUTION. The Oakland Museum has a copy of this original poster in its poster collection. On the Museum's online site, OCMA, it shows an image of the poster and provides relevant information about it, including the 1979 printing date. No printer information is given. Poster has a black background with white text. In the center is an image of Pedro Teran singing and playing the guitar. The poster reads, "Concierto Beneficio para el Ministerio de Cultura de Nicaragua/ Concierto con Pedro Teran / interpretador de la canción revolucionaria / October 28, 3-7 PM/ $2.50 / St. John Lutheran School / south Van Ness & twenty-first st. / San Francisco / Tambien: Musica de Los Peludos, Tardeada, Comida y Bebidas". VERY GOOD condition, there is some light age toning to the white border; there are some corner tip creases and a few small edge scrapes; the lithograph was stored rolled and there are some light creases from having been thus stored. The poster will be sent safely rolled in a sturdy mailing tube.

LIMITED EDITION of only 2000 COPIES, so stated on the Colophon page (the last page). Softcovers, 6.5x9 inches (17x23 cm), 535 pages. Illustrated with 3 fold open facsimiles of historical financial documents related to the California Missions. GOOD MINUS condition, the covers have light toning, and some edge and general wear; the rear cover has a crack / split along its spine edge, but is holding well; internally the glue binding seems to be getting old and feels like it might crack and cause some pages to come loose (but not yet), otherwise the pages are bright, clean and unmarked. An interesting look at the economics behind the building of the California Missions. This 1985 first and limited edition is quite hard to find.

A HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT, BOUND COLLECTION of this BRAZILIAN LITERARY NEWSPAPER, that was also VERY POLITICAL.

ARTICLES on BRAZILIAN WRITERS and POETS of the DAY, International Authors of Note, and other Arts, including Music (especially Black Jazz), Painting, and Cinema.

Many of the articles became very political, as Brazilian Writers and Poets began to rebel against Brazilian authority, restrictions, and right wing politics.

Very large format newspapers bound together in hardcovers, black paper covered boards title written in white on the spine: "Jornal de Letras No. 7-18", 13x18.5".

Monthly Brazilian Literary Newspaper, published in Rio de Janeiro. 12 issues, from January 1950 through December 1950.

The newspaper issues were presumably bound by the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY, because there is an Ex-Libris Stamp of the "Berkeley Library / University of California" on the front pastedown.

Many (most?) of the issues seem to have 16 pages. All contain lots of Brazilian Literature and other Arts related articles, as well as Brazilian / Rio ads.

CONDITION: The covers have rubs, scrapes, and pokes; the spine ends are worn; overall the covers remain sturdy and are doing their job. Internally, the pages are toned, as is normal; the pages all have wear, including chipping, to their edges; some pages have edge tears that extend an inch or two; the pages are tender especially at the edges and edge pieces can come off easily; nonetheless, the issues are in generally GOOD condition, most pages are solid (though fragile at the edges), all are legible and clean, kept that way by having been nicely bound and probably very rarely used. The issues provide a great window into the Literary Blossoming and its Political Stance in Brazil in 1950.

I tried to provide enough images to give you a good idea of the types of articles and illustrations contained in these issues.
