Printed on beautifully white laid paper. About WILLIAM SEWEL (from Wikipedia): ******Willem Sewel (also William Sewel), b. 1653 d. 1720, was a Dutch Quaker historian, of English background. Sewel spent 25 years on his major work, The History of the Rise, Increase, and Progress of the Christian People called Quakers. It was first published in Dutch, as Histori van de Opkompste, Aanwas en Voortgang der Christenen bekend by den naam van Quakers, Amsterdam, 1717 (another edition, 1742). The English edition (London, 1722), dedicated to George I, was largely undertaken to correct Historia Quakeriana (Amsterdam, 1695; English translation, London, 1696, by Gerard Croese, to whom Sewel had given letters and narratives from England). Sewel's own work was based on a mass of correspondence, George Fox's Journal, and, for the public history, Lord Clarendon's Rebellion and Edmund Ludlow's Memoirs. It became an authority. Sewel's other works include A Compleat Dictionary of English and Dutch, 2 pts., Amsterdam, 1691; 6th Ed., enlarged by Buys, 1766.****** INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: This book is large and heavy and will require substantial additional shipping charges. Published by The Hoopes Family Organization, Houston, Texas, 1977-1983.

Looks at the ancestry of, and traces the known descendants of, Daniel Hoopes, the son of Joshua Hoopes and Ann, baptized 27 May 1672 in Skelton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire, England and died in 1749 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married Jane Worrilaw, daughter of Thomas Worilaw and Jean Perkes, 10 Dec 1696 in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They had eighteen children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma and Utah. Includes Allred, Anderson, Bird, Darlington, Gifford, Johnson, Peterson, Stewart, Watkins and related families. Includes a 130-page index of names covered, in Volume 3

The volumes were apparently owned by a related family member doing research on the Hoopes-Hoops family line. There are a number of bookmarks in each volume with genealogical information, and there is marginalia here and there throughout, mainly lines marking passages and handwritten page numbers for reference. At the top of the dedication page of Volume I is the handwritten name of "Bina Alverda Hoops Beasley" and the date Sept. 4, 1979. Perhaps the previous owner was related to her.

The 3 volumes are in GOOD condition, there are relevant marks, lines and inserted bookmarks as noted above, the spines have some light creasing from use, otherwise just gently used and still tight, bright, clean and clear. A solid, presentable set.

INCLUDED with this Rare THREE VOLUME SET is a lovely, printed, colored MARRIAGE DOCUMENT, dated 1919, printed by Crider & Bros, York, PA. The marriage was of BINA HOOPS and MILLARD BEASLEY. The document measures 16x18.5 inches. It appears that it was pasted onto a thin brown paper backing. It is in POOR condition, with lots of tape to the printed front and blank backside, some darkly browned; lots of horizontal creases most of which are tender and could split easily; and browning to the backside. The document was rolled which likely caused the creases.

The books will be safely and securely shipped in a sturdy box. The marriage document will be shipped rolled in a mailing tube.

SCARCE Complete THREE VOLUME SET, with a nice piece of associated ephemera.
