Ketcham began his career in hi-tech, but cashed out of high-tech and turned his passion for collecting vintage Ferraris and other rare sports cars into a business for buying, racing and brokering collector cars. An attractive, very presentable set.

Photolithographs, each is 18" x 24". Published by Classic Images, Distributed by Pacific Images, Glendale, California, 1989. Each hand signed in black pen by Bob Seidemann. VERY GOOD CONDITION. Three scarce signed posters, I could not find any in commerce or auction records.

Photographer Bob Seidemann (1941-2017) is famous for his Hippie era rock posters. He was one of the most recognized rock 'n' roll photographers of the 1960s, he photographed Janis Joplin wearing only beads, he photographed album covers for the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, and the infamous Blind Faith album cover. Raised near LaGuardia Airport he developed an early fascination with aircraft that inspired his acclaimed aviation project which began in the 1980s. In 2007 the original Airplanes As Art photography portfolio sold at auction for $216,000 at Sotheby's.

The three posters will be shipped together, safely rolled in a sturdy mailing tube.

RITZ CARLTON RESTAURANT ON BOARD THE S.S. KAISERIN AUGUSTE VICTORIA / HAMBURG - AMERICAN LINE. Under the Management of THE CARLTON HOTEL, LONDON.

Promotional Book for the S.S. Kaiserin Auguste Victoria Ocean Liner, whose newest feature was the RITZ CARLTON RESTAURANT. The book gives details of the ship, its physical features, its various rooms and suites, its entertainments and amenities, landmarks found at various ports of call, and, of course, The Ritz Carlton. Illustrated with 25 pasted in b&w photographs.

Hardcovers, cloth covered boards, front cover has a mounted, art-deco designed plate that reads: "Ritz's Carlton Restaurant / S.S. Kaiserin Auguste Victoria / Hamburg-American Line", 9.5x11 inches oblong, approximately 80 unnumbered pages.

Condition: The covers have some spotting and soiling, wear to the edges and corner tips, and cracking / splitting at the spine folds, but are still doing their job, and the plate on the front cover is lovely; internally, the front inner hinge is cracked and the rear inner hinge is split but the binding is holding well; the blank endpapers have offsetting, the front free-endpaper has a vertical crease, the pages are toned, most notably at the margins, one leaf has a 2 inch closed tear at its blank bottom margin; otherwise the pages are bright and clear and the photographs are all present and sharp.

Scarce Illustrated Record of the Beginnings of the Luxury Cruise Ships. RITZ says it all.

About the S.S. KAISERIN AUGUSTE VICTORIA (from Wikipedia):

******Augusta Victoria, later Auguste Victoria, placed in service in 1889 and named for Empress Augusta Victoria, wife of German Emperor Wilhelm II, was the name ship of the Augusta Victoria series and the first of a new generation of luxury Hamburg America Line ocean liners. She was the first liner built in continental Europe with twin propellers and when first placed in service, the fastest liner in the Atlantic trade.

She was the first luxury liner at Hamburg America, introducing the concept of the "floating hotel"; she had "a rococo stair hall, illuminated by a milky way of pear-shaped prisms and naked light bulbs clutched by gilded cherubs, a reception court choked by palm trees and a dark and gothic smoking room." She was immediately successful.

In 1897, the ship underwent a comprehensive rebuilding at Harland & Wolff in Belfast arriving in the graving dock 19 December 1896. She was lengthened by 61 ft (18.6 m), her tonnage increased, and her speed increased by half a knot, and the middle of her three masts was removed. Her name was also changed to Auguste Victoria to correct an original inaccuracy; the Empress spelt her name with an e.******

From an original photograph believed to be taken by long time Pan Am staff photographer Chester "Blackie" Kronfeld who died tragically at the age of 49 while on assignment in the horrific American Airlines plane crash that killed 95 people in New York on March 1, 1962.

Off-set Color Lithograph, published by [Pan American Airlines], November, 1965 (as indicated by the printing code 11/65 in the lower right margin), large format 34.5" x 44", printed on matte paper. VERY GOOD Condition: the bottom edge has some wear/creasing and a tiny chip on the lower left corner, and a quarter size touch of light shorelining on the rear of the image that is barely visible in the sky, overall a bright, clean and uncommon 1965 Pan Am advertising poster. Will be shipped safely rolled in a sturdy tube. A striking vintage poster that would make a powerful statement framed.

In the 1960s Pan Am produced a series of large format promotional travel posters depicting fabulous shots of iconic destinations with bold red and blue text and airplane icon at the bottom stating "Fly Pan Am To ..."

METALCLAD AIRSHIPS. Presentation book promoting the first Metal-Clad blimp, with photographs showing the development, production and test flight of the ZMC-2 "Metalclad". Includes THIRTY-FOUR (34) ORIGINAL, GLOSSY, LINEN-BACKED 8x10 PHOTOGRAPHS of the ZMC-2 "METALCLAD" BLIMP as it was being developed and tested as a prototype for the U.S. Navy, which was expected to order a fleet of ZMC-2 blimps for military purposes. However, only ONE ZMC-2 metal-clad blimp was ever built. This one.

Presentation book, flexible leather boards, with title page, information sheet, and 34 linen backed photographs bound in. Each photograph is stamped on the linen backing "KALEC INC. / DETROIT". Kalec was an early Detroit photography company.

An 8x10 inch metal sample of the "Alclad Sheet" used on the hull of the ZMC-2 is laid in loosely at the front (it was bound in at the front but became disbound at some point).

Published by the Detroit Aircraft Corporation, circa 1929 for the purpose of promoting its metalclad blimps.

GOOD Condition: A few of the photos and the title page have some soiling, the metal sample of the hull is disbound, as noted above, overall a complete and amazing look at the production stages of a metal clad dirigible.

******Metal-clad airships are airships which have a very thin airtight metal envelope, rather than the usual fabric envelope. Only four ships of this type are known to have been built, and only two actually flew: Schwarz's aluminum ship of 1893 collapsed on inflation; Schwarz's second airship flew at Tempelhof, Berlin in 1897, landed but then collapsed; the ZMC-2 that was ever manufactured flew 752 flights between 1929 and scrapping in 1941; while the Slate City of Glendale, was built in 1929 but never flew.

******U.S. NAVY ZMC-2 // The photographs which follow describe the progressive steps in the construction of the world's first METALCLAD AIRSHIP, built at Grosse Ile Airport, Detroit, Michigan, for the U. S. Navy by the Aircraft Development Corporation, division of Detroit Aircraft Corporation. This first successful application of all metal construction to rigid airships is the result of the cooperation of the Federal Government with private initiative.

The first rivet was driven in the bow section of the hull on March 7, 1928, and the ship was completed and inflated with helium seventeen months later. On August 19, 1929, the ZMC 2 made its first test flight of 49 minutes and 55 seconds.

Included with these photographs is a sample of the machine riveted ALCLAD sheet with which the hull of the ship is covered. The diffusion of helium through the riveted seams is considerably less than through goldbeater skin. Its resistance to fatigue from vibration has been successfully demonstrated.

The METALCLAD ZMC-2 is the first all American conceived, American designed and American built rigid airship. As an experimental unit, it has a displacement of only 200,000 cubic feet and is too small for extended military and commercial uses. In its larger sizes [which were in development by the Detroit Aircraft Corporation but later abandoned], it is destined to play an important role in the general advancement and prosperity of our country.

This May 1967 San Francisco Marin Crossing presents serious construction plans for increasing access to Marin county. Plans include: building a second bridge from San Francisco to Marin, building a bridge to Angel Island connecting to Tiburon, building an underwater tube linking San Francisco and Marin, and a number of lower deck options for the Golden Gate Bridge are also investigated. A graphic treasure trove of imagery, construction plans, projects, renderings, maps, and photographs illuminating what today looks like a science fictional landscape. Iconic Plans that might have been, will probably never be realized, but you never know .
