No Publisher or Place of Publication Stated [Bremen?]: 1619. Pagination: 72pp. (The last few pages are bound in an incorrect and improperly numbered order - as bound and issued - printer's or binder's error - all pages are present.) These 4 works are bound together in CONTEMPORARY VELLUM COVERED BOARDS, blind tooled vellum, handwritten title on spine, 3.5" x 6.25", page edges stained black, FOUR WORKS IN THIS ONE VOLUME, all title pages present. ILLUSTRATED with some engraved Printer's Devices and Tail-Pieces. CONDITION: .Vellum Covers are splitting for 1" at the top of the spine fold, have a 1"x1" piece of vellum missing from the bottom of the rear cover, are soiled / darkened / age toned, the spine has especially darkened making the manuscript spine title difficult to read, and there are remnants of a paper label to the bottom of the spine; nonetheless, the vellum covers are still attractive in a Harry Potter Hogwarts' Library way. Internally, the, front and rear hinges have split exposing the inner spine of the text block; there is a previous owner's name and date on the front pastedown "Ern. Zimmermann / Gerv. 1812"; there is a lovely circular red stamp of "Bucherei Friedelhausen" on the blank page facing the title page; several leaves in the Kirchmann work (the first work) have small pieces missing : the title-page has a small piece neatly cut out (perhaps removing a previous owner's name?); the bottom front margin area of pages 639/640 (Rr8) is torn away, affecting some text; the upper corners of pages 725/726, 729/730 and 731/732 (Zz3, Zz 5 & 6) are torn away, each affecting only a bit of text; there are some early relevant margin notes, in Latin; the pages are lightly browned / aged; there is some foxing, creasing, edge wear, here and there throughout; overall the inner pages of this approximately 400 year'old book are in remarkable shape, still tight, bright, clean, clear and fully legible. FOUR IMPORTANT WORKS - EACH VERY SCARCE ON ITS OWN. Copies of any of these four works are normally found in Rare Book Rooms of Major Universities and National Libraries (e.g. the Austrian National Library).

A LA HAYE : CHEZ ABRAHAM ARONDEUS, Marchand Libraire au Palais, a l'Enseigne du Roy de France, M. DC. LXXXII (1682). This book almost immediately became an important and controversial work that was quickly reprinted, most notably by Chez David Dufour, Ville Franche, who republished the book in several editions also in the year 1682. VELLUM BOUND, small format 3" x 5.25", two parts in this one book (complete), pagination: [4], 182; [2],160 pages. I collated both Volume I and Volume II page-by-page with the copy of each volume held in the Rare Book

Holdings of the Bavarian State Library, Germany. Those rare copies were digitized in 2010. Condition: The vellum covers are yellowed with age, stained, worn through along some of the edges, are peeling at the folds and edges, and have a 1/2 piece missing at the bottom of the spine; the inner rear hinge has completely split, exposing the inner binding and meaning that the vellum covers are almost disbound (a strong tug would remove them from the inner bound text. There is interesting very early writing, in French, on the front pastedown, the rear free endpaper, and on a laid-in slip of paper; there is also a signature on the very last page of text of Volume II. There is a handwritten date of 1712 on the front pastedown, but I don't know if all the writing is from that time or not. The front and rear pastedowns are soiled, creased, and have large tears. The first page of Volume I is soiled, has a dime-size edge chip (not affecting text), a couple hand-written letters "m" and "o.u." and a signature. Overall the inner pages are very nice - light foxing, mostly on the first and last few pages, some soiling, overall still tight, bright, clean and unmarked. Complete TRUE FIRST EDITION / FIRST PRINTING (Published by Chez Abraham Arondeus, La Haye) of this IMPORTANT WORK by PIERRE JURIEU. This true first printing is SCARCE, with copies only to be found in a few rare book rooms of Major Universities and National Collections (see WorldCat).

"Grose and his servant / friend frequently went out at midnight from the King's Arms in Holborn in search of adventures. The back slums of St. Giles were explored again and again. Grose and his servant would mingle affably and good-naturedly with the beggars, cadgers and thieves, who at that time infested the 'Holy Land' - which is what the St. Giles district was called. By this way, they acquired many vulgar words and phrases." Copy of IRVING GOODWIN VANN, with his personal bookplate on the inside front cover. Condition: Covers are disbound but present (i.e. laid-on loosely), as noted above, the spine covering is lacking, the loose boards are scraped and rubbed; there is foxing to some of the pages here and there (quite a bit on a few

pages, none on most) but the text is always very clear and legible; overall the inner pages are complete, tight, bright, clean and unmarked. About IRVING GOODMAN VANN - whose bookplate is on the inside front cover (from Wikipedia): ******Irving Goodwin Vann (January 3, 1842 in Ulysses, Tompkins County, New York - March 22, 1921 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York) was an American lawyer, judge and politician from New York. Vann married Julie Florence Dillaye (1846-1934), the daughter of a Syracuse real estate developer, on October 11, 1870. They had two children, Florence (1871-1942) and Irving Dillaye (1875-1944). He was Mayor of Syracuse, New York from 1879 to 1880. He was a justice of the New York Supreme Court (5th District) from 1882 to 1895.******

Softcover Catalogs, side stapled, 8.5x11 inches. Most have 24 pages, including covers.

Each watch is nicely described and priced. Fully ILLUSTRATED with COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS of the watches being offered.

CONDITION: These catalogs were previously owned by a POCKET WATCH COLLECTOR. There are his relevant notes and marks throughout, including circling, underlining and sometimes yellow highlighting of many items of interest to him, many notes here and there, including on the covers of a few issues, etc. Five of the issues are triple hole punched at the left margin, presumably the collector planned to keep the catalogs in a three ring binder but changed his mind after a bit. Otherwise the issues show just light signs of handling and use, still complete, solid, clear and bright.

A great look at important and rare pocket watches, many of which are only to be seen in these catalogs.

These ORIGINAL ASHLAND CATALOGS have become very hard-to-find.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: These 29 catalogs will require substantial additional shipping charges. After placing your order you will be notified of the additional charges and be able to accept or reject them before your payment is processed. Or you can contact us ahead of time to find out the shipping charge to your country. Thanks.

This is a JAPANESE ART MONOGRAPH on a POTTER / CERAMACIST. The monograph consists mainly of his GORGEOUS TEA CUPS, though there are some paintings and calligraphy as well. I do not read Japanese and can not figure out who the potter is, but perhaps you can do both. He seems to me to be a somewhat recent ceramicist making teacups in a traditional style. Softcover book, 8.5x10.5 inches. There are 80 COLOR PLATES of CERAMIC WORKS, either 1 or 2 to a page, plus 24 PLATES of CALLIGRAPHY and PAINTINGS, mostly 1 to a page. About BAMBOO AND WOODEN SLIPS (from Wikipedia): ******Bamboo and Wooden Slips were the main media for documents in China before the widespread introduction of paper during the first two centuries AD. (Silk was occasionally used, but was prohibitively expensive.) The long, narrow strips of wood or bamboo typically carry a single column of brush written text each, with space for several tens of visually complex ancient Chinese characters. For longer texts, many slips may be bound together in sequence with thread. Each strip of wood or bamboo is said to be as long as a chopstick and as wide as two. The earliest surviving examples of wood or bamboo slips date from the 5th century BC during the Warring States period. However, references in earlier texts surviving on other media make it clear that some precursor of these Warring States period bamboo slips was in use as early as the late Shang period (from about 1250 BC). Bamboo or wooden strips were the standard writing material during the Han dynasty and excavated examples have been found in abundance. Subsequently, paper began to displace bamboo and wooden strips from mainstream uses, and by the 4th century AD bamboo had been largely abandoned as a medium for writing in China. The custom of interring books made of the durable bamboo strips in royal tombs has preserved many works in their original form through the centuries. An important early find was the Jizhong discovery in 279 AD of a tomb of a king of Wei, though the original recovered strips have since disappeared. Several caches of great importance have been found in recent years.******

There were different ways of squatting. Women bent their knees, ministers in the palace squatted when they saw the emperor, etc. Though the Chinese did have chairs to sit in, they did, however, often sit on their bed. How did the Chinese move from sitting and squatting on the ground to sitting in chairs? This book introduces the development of Chinese seating through the past and present of a Ming style official hat chair. The development of the official hat chair reveals the exquisiteness and comprehensiveness of Chinese culture, including the historical pursuit of materials and craft.******
