A book in which all will find important information about THEIR FATE IN THE HEREAFTER.) An early German FANTASY, FANTASTICAL, OCCULT, GUIDED SPIRIT work of fiction in the guise of a true case history. Written Anonymously, but assumed to be by Philippine Demuth BAUERLE. PHILADELPHIA : Gedruckt auf Kosten ber Berlegerinnen, Frau Vollmer und Spiess, bei Schelln und Lefcher, 270 North 2te Strasse, 1836. (Printed at the Expense of Female Students, Mrs. Vollmer and Spiess, at Schelln and Lescher, 270 North 2nd Street, 1836.) RARE FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, much more uncommon than the original 1834 German Edition from which it was taken. TEXT IN GERMAN. Obviously published for the PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH - GERMAN READING community. This first American edition is substantially reduced from the original German edition which was published in Augsburg, Germany, in 1834. It was edited anonymously for the American market, perhaps by Frau Vollmer for her female students. Note: The subsequent second American edition was a translated edition, translated into English, published in 1837. It was, like this first edition, printed at 270 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia. It was translated into English directly from this first American edition with its German text, as indicated by the fact that both were published at the same address and have almost the same number of pages (a number of pages that differs substantially from the first German edition with its 329 pages). This book  is the written "account" of the out of body spiritual journey of a 17 year old girl who visits the moon, various planets, and the sun, and who learns about the afterlife from the spirits that inhabit those celestial bodies. Hardcover book, marbled paper covered boards and cloth covered spine (both coverings mostly worn off), 4.25x6.5 inches, 198 pages. Pagination: 2 blank frontis leaves; IV (title page, verso, table of contents); 198; 3 blank end leaves. Condition: The marbled paper covering is mostly gone from the rear board, and the cloth (or thin leather) covering to the spine is mostly chipped off, nonetheless the covers remain strongly attached and are doing their job; the front and rear inner hinges are split but holding well; there is a previous owner's signature on the front free endpaper; there is foxing throughout but the text is always fully legible; some corners are folded over; otherwise tight, clean, clear and unmarked. A solid, complete copy of this RARE FIRST AMERICAN PRINTING FANTASY / OCCULT work, in GERMAN, with an interesting, early American imprint.
