There are five "specimens" (i.e. printed signatures - samples from the larger work) laid into a flap on the inside rear cover; four are folded signatures of four or more pages, one is a single leaf illustration, each is 6.5x10 inches. All are quite lovely. These signatures were overruns from the original Tuscany Alley edition printed in 1978.

ILLUSTRATED by Joyce Lancaster Wilson with 2 tipped in full color illustrations, and a few color illustrations in the specimen signatures.

About FLUXUS (from Wikipedia):

******Fluxus was an international, interdisciplinary community of artists, composers, designers and poets during the 1960s and 1970s who engaged in experimental art performances which emphasized the artistic process over the finished product. These art forms include intermedia, a term coined by Fluxus artist Dick Higgins; conceptual art, first developed by Henry Flynt, an artist contentiously associated with Fluxus; and video art, first pioneered by Nam June Paik and Wolf Vostell. Dutch art critic Harry Ruhé describes Fluxus as the most radical and experimental art movement of the sixties.

The ideas and practices of composer John Cage heavily influenced Fluxus. Especially his notions that one should embark on an artwork without a conception of its end, and his understanding of the work as a site of interaction between artist and audience. Another notable influence were the readymades of Marcel Duchamp. George Maciunas, largely considered to be the founder of this fluid movement, coined the name Fluxus in 1961 to title a proposed magazine.

FOR PEACE IN INDOCHINA, END MILITARY AID.

This poster was published by a large coalition of peace groups supporting the Paris Peace Accords to end the war in Vietnam, c.1973.

The Paris Peace Accords were signed in 1973, however the U.S. Congress never ratified the accords and the treaty was broken numerous times. The U.S. ended up fleeing Vietnam in 1975.

NEAR FINE CONDITION. Just a touch of handling and edgewear. The poster will be shipped carefully rolled in a sturdy mailing tube.

A lovely, historic poster documenting the movement to end the War in Vietnam.

Softcover, illustrated blue wraps, 11" x 8.5", 52 pages, beautifully illustrated throughout with over 30 full color photographs of the exquisite decorative pieces. The catalogue includes superb examples of French and Portuguese Palissy wares as well as English and American majolica, and a selected chronology 1590-1930. VERY GOOD CONDITION: a few light bumps to the spine, light shelf and edge wear to the covers, internally tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A lovey and uncommon catalogue.

French Renaissance master Bernard Palissy (c. 1510-1589) decorated his ceramics with trompe l'oeil flora and fauna including serpents, reptiles, shells, and amphibians cast from life. His art revolutionized the field of ceramics. Centuries later, 19th century potters rediscovered Palissy's techniques and inspired by the radical modern visions of nature, utopian fantasy, and science fiction of the times, created their own cabinet of curiosities in clay. Palissy died imprisoned at the Bastille because his religious beliefs did not align with the French governments, he was a Protestant.

With an ORIGINAL FULL-PAGE DRAWING by HANS ERNI on a blank prelim. It is INSCRIBED to the renowned Napa Valley Winemakers MAGRIT and BOB [MONDAVI] and dated June 30, 1993. The drawing is in pencil and ink. The inscription, running vertically down the left side of the drawing, reads: "In friendship for Magrit and Bob 30.6.93". The drawing is SIGNED by the artist on the right side of the drawing.

Hans Erni, b.1909 d.2015, was a Swiss artist who became friends of the Mondavis after he was commissioned by Magrit Mondavi to paint a portrait of her husband, Robert Mondavi. The portrait was done in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, and dated 1993. The painting was signed with a dedication "In Friendship to Robert & Magrit". The painting was displayed in the home of the Mondavis during their lifetimes (Robert Mondavi died in 2008, Magrit Mondavi died in 2016). To state the obvious, this listing does NOT include the large painting.

HIROSHIGE-GA GOJUSAN-TSUGI GENJO SHASHIN TAISHO. Hiroshige 53 Stages of the Tokaido - Past and Present. ILLUSTRATED with Fifty-Five Color Prints of Hiroshige's 53 Stations of the Tokaido, each side-by-side with a c.1910 photograph of the locale most likely used as Hiroshige's source of inspiration. It is interesting to see how the locales looked to Hiroshige many years before the Taisho Era photographs of the same locales were taken (i.e. 1833 and c.1910).

Published by Tokoen, Tokyo, 1918, as part of the nationwide celebration of the 60th anniversary of Hiroshige's death (b.1797 d.1858).

Hardcover book, reddish brown cloth covered boards, front board embossed with gilt lettering and white designs, ribbon tied, 9x12 inches (22.5x30 cm), illustrated endpapers, 120 pages plus a 40 page appendix telling a classic Japanese comedic tale about two men traveling the Tokaido road.

ILLUSTRATED with 56 Color Woodblock Prints, 55 reproducing Hiroshige's 53 Stages of Tokaido (Hiroshige's 53 stations of the Tokaido consisted of 55 prints), and a frontispiece plate of Hiroshige; plus 55 b&w photographs showing the locale of each Hiroshige print as it was when the c.1910 photograph was taken.

Condition: The covers are abraded, the front endpapers have a few small worm holes, there is an old bookseller's catalog description taped on a blank prelim, the inner pages are lightly age toned as normal, there is some soiling, foxing, and light staining here and there mostly in the margins; overall the pages are sound and the prints and photographs are bright and lovely.

A complete copy of this rare side-by-side look at Hiroshige's 55 prints of the 53 stations of Tokaido, and corresponding photographs of the same locale taken in 1918.

Condition: NEAR FINE book, the half title page has some creasing to its front edge, otherwise tight, bright, clean and unmarked; in a NEAR FINE dustjacket that has just a bit of edge wear. A lovely copy of the book. The box is in GOOD MINUS condition, the side corners of the front flaps of the top are split, there is wear to all the corners and some rubbing along the edges, and the bottom has some spotting; nonetheless the box is still functioning well, retains its packaging band across the bottom which originally sealed the box (as it does the cigarette box), and the image is bright and clear.

A wonderful illustrated history of the packaging, advertising, designs, and overall graphics of the Greek cigarette.
