Looks at the ancestry of, and traces the known descendants of, Daniel Hoopes, the son of Joshua Hoopes and Ann, baptized 27 May 1672 in Skelton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire, England and died in 1749 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married Jane Worrilaw, daughter of Thomas Worilaw and Jean Perkes, 10 Dec 1696 in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They had eighteen children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Oklahoma and Utah. Includes Allred, Anderson, Bird, Darlington, Gifford, Johnson, Peterson, Stewart, Watkins and related families. Includes a 130-page index of names covered, in Volume 3

The volumes were apparently owned by a related family member doing research on the Hoopes-Hoops family line. There are a number of bookmarks in each volume with genealogical information, and there is marginalia here and there throughout, mainly lines marking passages and handwritten page numbers for reference. At the top of the dedication page of Volume I is the handwritten name of "Bina Alverda Hoops Beasley" and the date Sept. 4, 1979. Perhaps the previous owner was related to her.

The 3 volumes are in GOOD condition, there are relevant marks, lines and inserted bookmarks as noted above, the spines have some light creasing from use, otherwise just gently used and still tight, bright, clean and clear. A solid, presentable set, with an interesting provenance.

"The first section dealing with Thomas and Jessie Lowrie, beginning in Jedburgh, Scotland and closing in Hamilton, Victoria. This is followed by a second section featuring John and Margaret Wilkinson, originating with their wedding in Mansfield, England and phasing out in Swan Hill. Genealogies of families related to the author Gladys Rittenhouse Johnson Stoner. Most seem to be finally settled around Ontario, Canada, and some nearby Provinces and American states.

FAIR condition: New endpapers and title page that were photocopied and tipped in; the cover's spine is sunned, the page edges are foxed and there is a red marker line across the top page edges (page edges of the closed book); internally, the front and rear pastedowns are toned and have offsetting; there is a glued on remnant of a newspaper article on the gutter margin of an early page; there are handwritten notes, marks, additions and changes here and there throughout (adding to the genealogical richness of the work, imho), otherwise a solid, complete copy with text that is clear.

Rich in genealogy and ancestry, even more so with the handwritten additions.

A large multi generational Jewish mishpokhe gathered before a Seder table set with High Holiday Yom Tov candles, red wine, and Matzoh. The bearded rabbinical looking man at the center is wearing a white Tallit (prayer shawl) and kippah yarmulke (head covering). Two women are holding photographic portraits. Behind the family is a large elaborate hand painted photo backdrop.

Goldenberg Photography Studio was extant in the 1920s at this location in East New York (Brooklyn neighborhood). I

located a few cabinet cards (weddings, portraits, etc) bearing their imprint on ancestry sites that confirm the 1920s assignation. There is a later 1932 Brooklyn newspaper clipping listing a new photography business venture by Rebecca Goldenberg at 954 Sutter Ave, but nothing else related to her or her business until 1936 when her name and address were published in the Official Report for the Confidential Use of the Special Committee on Un-American Activities Names and Addresses of the Voters for the Communist Party Ticket in the 1936 General Election of the Boroughs of New York City.

A lost early 20th century Brooklyn neighborhood photography studio whose clientele were largely immigrants from Italy, and Jews from eastern Europe.

VERY GOOD Condition: photo has edgewear, small chips and closed tears to the edges, a 1" closed edge tear in the left margin affecting the shoulder area of the young girl at the far left, the card mount has edgewear/chips and a 1.5" x 7" piece of the left bottom corner is missing but the image in not affected, and the paper studio label affixed to the rear has a piece missing but is still legible, overall a clean, clear, bright, rare original photograph. Items include: (1) PHOTO ALBUM containing approximately 110 photographs, mostly of LENA BIRKOVA, both in theatrical scenes and in everyday life. Most appear to be from the 1950s to the early 1960s. Many are 3.5x5 inches, but there are also smaller and larger sizes. Many are mounted, others have become dismounted. It appears that most of the photos can be easily dismounted. Some have written notes on the backside. (2) Approximately 240 loose photographs of various sizes including many snapshots, of LENA BIRKOVA and her family, including daughter, grandchildren, husbands. Most photos include Lena in the photo, the majority being candid family photos, but there are some of Lena in various stage persona. Photos range from her younger days to her days as a grandmother. (3) Some larger 8x10 photos, and an identity card. (4) A group of postcards written to Lena in Praha by a grandchild. Lena Birková was born on September 16, 1925 in Chabarovsk, Russia.. She was a working actress with roles in numerous Czech and International theatre and film productions starting in the 1950s. One of her last films was a role in the Academy Award winning film Kolya (1996). She died on December 7, 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic. Photos of Lena Birkova are hard to find. I'M A FISH, A MUSICIAN, A WIFE, AND A MOM. An illustrated biography of Margaret Fish and her relations, put together and self published by her husband, Thomas K. McManus, after her death in 1994. Self published softcover booklet, undated but circa 1995. The front page is a printed reproduction of a painting of Margaret Fish, it is covered with a clear vinyl cover. The rear cover is black vinyl, the spine is covered with black cloth tape covered spine. There are 68 pages, 8.5x11 inches. Illustrated throughout with reproductions of vintage b&w photographs of Margaret Fish and Her Relations. Contains a lot of genealogical information regarding Margaret Fish and her relations. VERY GOOD condition. There is a name/address sticker of Thomas McManus, the author and Margaret Fish's husband, on the front vinyl cover, otherwise tight, bright, clean and unmarked.

MEMOIRS of ED FLETCHER, by Ed Fletcher.

First (and only) Edition, Limited, Privately Published. From the limitation page: "This book of memoirs to my children is a privately printed limited edition to be presented to our family, close friends and associates. Your copy is number 1107."

SIGNED and INSCRIBED on the Limitation Page by the author, ED FLETCHER, who added his wife Mary's name: "To our good friend Mrs. K. W. Hamilton / With kindest regards / Mary & Ed Fletcher".

Hardcover book, burgundy cloth covered boards, gilt title to the spine, 6x9 inches, 751 pages. Rich with Fletcher family genealogy, often as it intertwined with others in the building of San Diego..

Illustrated throughout with b&w photographs of Fletcher's family and of important early San Diego civic, military, political and religious leaders who were involved in the building and development of the County.

GOOD MINUS condition. The covers are solid and sharp cornered with just a hint of wear to the corners and spine ends. Internally, the front inner hinge is cracked but holding well; the first and last few pages are foxed and are toned from offsetting and there is some light foxing to the other pages here and there throughout; some pages have light creases; and the pages have a light, old musty smell likely from storage; otherwise the pages are tight, bright, clean, clear and unmarked. Overall a solid, nice copy but with a light old book smell.

About ED FLETCHER and his IMPORTANT PLACE in SAN DIEGO HISTORY:

******Ed Fletcher, b.1872 d.1955, was a San Diego developer, promoter, and politician.

In 1888 Fletcher, age 15, came to San Diego alone, and with $6.10 in his pocket began selling produce. In 1901, he entered the real estate business as a land agent, and started a partnership in 1908 with William J. Gross, silent film actor and producer. That partnership developed Grossmont, Mt. Helix, and Del Mar. Fletcher donated land on Mt. Helix where Easter Sunrise services are held.

Fletcher became interested in developing San Diego's infrastructure and saw to it that many road projects were completed in and around the City. With Fred Jackson, Fletcher raised civic interest in building a road to Imperial Valley, then a plank road across the desert to Yuma, Arizona. Fletcher was later active in having state and U.S. highways built to San Diego.

Fletcher also took an interest in projects delivering water to San Diego, including creating Lake Hodges. Fletcher and Montana businessman James A. Murray purchased the San Diego Flume Company on June 1, 1910, renaming it the Cuyamaca Water Company. Their company made major improvements to the water system of San Diego County, including the construction of the San Vicente Dam and Reservoir. Fletcher also raised funds to buy land for the Naval Training Station in San Diego, and for building the YMCA.

In 1934 Fletcher was elected to the California State Senate, and served until 1947. Sometime while in the Senate, he switched his party affiliation from Republican to Democratic. He authored laws creating the San Diego County Water Authority and transferring ownership of Mission Bay to the city.

Fletcher married Mary C. Batchelder April 8, 1896 at Ayer, Massachusetts. They had ten children.****** (Ten children! There must be a lot of Fletcher descendants out and about!)

JOHN LEWIS BEARD and HIS DESCENDANTS. Typed carbon copy. A privately produced family genealogy. Written in pencil at the top of the first page is "3rd Copy". Compiler / Writer is unstated though likely a Beard Family member. Undated, perhaps 1950s as this is a typed carbon copy.

The person who compiled / created this genealogy researched several books and pulled items from them that were related to John Lewis Beard and His Descendants. Some of the books used for this genealogy include: The History of Rowan County, North Carolina, by Jethro Rumple, 1881; History of Florida in Three Volumes, the Lewis Publishing Company, 1923; Sketches of Prominent North Carolinians, by Jerome Dowd, 1888; North and South Carolina Marriage Records, compiled by William Montgomery Clemens, 1927; and Colonial Records of North Carolina. In addition the genealogist used the "Book of Remembrance" held at St. Luke's Parish, Salisbury, North Carolina, which contained sections on Miss Christine Beard, Mrs. Margretta Burns Beard, and Miss Julia Margrett Beard. Also referenced are various wills, deeds, newspaper reports, etc.

GOOD condition, the covers have some creases, scrapes, and small stains; the inner pages are very nice, bright, clean and clear.
