The Commercial Club of Paris, a forerunner to the Chamber of Commerce, was an elite group of successful businessmen and a few women who were actively promoting the economic and cultural development of the city (all of whom are noted at the rear of the book). With this very descriptive 1904 publication they showcase the scenic beauty of the city of Paris and its existing commercial and cultural prosperity, while simultaneously seeking to grow Paris into a leading modern industrial center and a very desirable business and family friendly place to come and live.

    About REBEKA NJAU (from Wikipedia):

******Rebeka Njau (née Nyanjega; born 15 December 1932) was Kenya's first female playwright and a pioneer in the representation of African women in literature. Her writing has addressed topics such as female genital mutilation and homosexuality. Her earliest works appeared under the name "Rebecca Njau".

THE SCAR, a one-act play, is considered the first play written by a Kenyan woman. It was published in book form in 1965 by Kibo Art Gallery in Marangu (after first appearing in a journal in 1963). THE SCAR premiered at the Uganda National Theatre in 1963 and went on to be performed in Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and the USA. The play centres on the issue of female genital mutilation. The main character is Mariana, a former prostitute who tries to help girls escape female genital mutilation, which she regards as a "brutal custom". She advocates for alternative forms of initiation that can empower girls. Mariana is opposed by other women, who claim to be acting on behalf of the community's elders. The play ends with Mariana being shamed for having an illegitimate child and losing her status. In 1964, a second play by Njau, In the Round Chain, was performed before being banned by the Ugandan government.******

The exhibition features a group of new works that are three dimensional pieces, with some on wheels. Often his works have narrative aspects, and moving parts, and seem light hearted in tone. Upon closer looking, however, darker and deeper themes may emerge. Prince seems to ponder metaphysics and the what-makes-things-tick aspect of life on our planet. Richard E. Prince was born in British Columbia and has exhibited across the country since his first solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1972."

Illustrated in a graphic style similar to the influential Marshall McLuhan book "The Medium Is the Massage." A book design classic "Right On!" is a powerful visual collage of black & white photographs, graphics and text that captures the radical student protests of 1969 from fights for civil rights, Black Power, student power, Black studies programs and racial diversity to anti Vietnam War rallies and altercations with police. "Black studies are inevitable. Period."

This vintage counterculture monograph is based on a 1969 study of over 200 US college campuses conducted by the Urban Research Corporation of Chicago, a private commercial organization that monitored contemporary trends and prepared reports for a range of groups and institution. These protests occurred on campuses of all sizes and in every region of the country, but most occurred in large universities with more than 1,000 students.

A privately produced family genealogy consisting of 176 photocopied 8.5x11 inch pages bound in a 3-ring binder. A DVD of the ROBERTS FAMILY HISTORY is included in a pocket on the inside front cover of the binder, presumably to more easily access the information in the work. Self-Published, 2006.

At the bottom of the title page is the following: "Note: This is the 'Public Version' of this book. Following genealogy protocol, information on the many living descendants has been removed."

The genealogy is accompanied with a cover letter to the previous owner. It begins: "Dear Charles / Well at long last, here is the final copy of the Roberts Family History book that I've been working on for over three years. As I have said to you many times before, this is a family history book, and not intended to be a history book that might be of great interest to others. However, as you know, it ended up having some pretty interesting facts about Antioch, Petaluma, and the rest. Thus, I am sending you a full binder copy so that you might put it in the Antioch Historical Society...Keep in mind this is the Public Version of the book...There are others who will receive a Public Version copy of this book, such as LDS Utah Family History Library, Petaluma Historical Society, etc. / Lynnette Roberts / Roseburg, Oregon".

VERY GOOD condition, just lightly used, everything is bright, clean and clear.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: This book will require additional shipping charges. After placing your order you will be notified of the charges and be able to accept or reject them before payment is taken. Thanks!

From the Colophon Page: "This book of lithographs by Roger Shimomura is a co-publication project of the Steinbaum Krauss Gallery, New York City and The Lawrence Lithography Workshop, Sundland Park, New Mexico. The images are derived from a series of paintings about the artist's experience as a child in Minidoka Concentration Camp in Hunt, Idaho, during World War II. The key line images were drawn by the artist on mylar and exposed to positive working plates. The color plates were hand painted under the artist's direction...The prints were hand printed by Michael Sims at The Lawrence Lithography Workshop on a direct pressure flatbed press...The binding and cover assembly were done by Priscilla Spitler at Hands on Bookbinding in Smithville, Texas. There are 30 books in the edition."

Artist's Statement: "Because I was so young at the time, the memories I have are very few, but those that I have maintained are still quite vivid. This series of works represents nearly all of those memories, that is, all of them except for one. As wonderful as it had seemed to live close to most of my friends and relatives, I remember never fully understanding exactly why we moved, and wondering if we were ever going to go back home."

When originally published in 1999 the book was priced at $8,000.

Condition: There is a bump to the bottom of the spine affecting the bottom blank spine corner of the inner pages, and a slight bump to the top of the spine only affecting that corner of a few preliminary pages. Otherwise bright, brilliant, and very scarce.

Internally, there is a bit of foxing to the endpapers, otherwise the inner pages are tight, bright, clean and unmarked. A solid, very nice copy. About SAMUEL I. ROSENMAN (from Wikipedia): ******Samuel Irving Rosenman (b. 1896 d. 1973) was an American lawyer, judge, Democratic Party activist and presidential speechwriter. He coined the term NEW DEAL, and helped articulate liberal policies during the heyday of the New Deal coalition. He was the first person to hold the position of White House Counsel. Rosenman was a senior advisor to presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. Under their administrations, he was a leading figure in the war crimes issue. He was also the first official White House Counsel, then called Special Counsel. He was a speechwriter under both presidents, helping Roosevelt with his speeches from his days as governor. Rosenman was responsible for the term "New Deal", a phrase in the conclusion of FDR's acceptance speech at the 1932 Democratic National Convention. While he was not heavily involved in speechwriting during Roosevelt's first term, he started traveling to Washington to help out with important talks during the 1936 campaign and was a key speech aide for the remainder of Roosevelt's life. He submitted his resignation as Special Counsel upon Roosevelt's death but Truman asked him to stay on, initially through V-E Day, then through V-J Day, and finally into 1946. Even after leaving the White House, he would periodically return to aid the president with major speeches, including his acceptance speech to the 1948 Democratic National Convention.****** About EDITH LEHMAN (to whom the book is inscribed): ******Edith Lehman (Edith Louise Lehman) was the wife of Herbert H. Lehman who was the first Jewish Governor of New York and later a Democratic Senator from New York. During his tenure as Senator, Herbert Lehman was one of the most liberal Senators in the Senate. As Governor, he and his wife Edith Lehman, were strong supporters of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Both Herbert and Edith Lehman were major philanthropists, sometimes assisting and accompanying Eleanor Roosevelt in her charity endeavors.****** (An amazing woman. You can find photos of her with Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt on the Internet.)
